Hello Bally welcome to the forum I'm sure you will get plenty of help from the guys and girls on here as we are indeed a friendly bunch. ;)

I wish you well with your gardening adventures although I'm pretty sure I know what you will find under your back lawn.....a building site full of bricks and rubble not nice at all, but no doubt you will get stuck in and get things sorted.Hel.xxx.

Thats for sure Helofadigger plenty of boulders to dig out. But im pleased with the soil its a realy good dig not heavy clay that I was expecting. My main concern is the slight slope and what material to use to create a retaining wall to form a terrace.

Bally fear not with regard to 'what materials to use to create a retaining wall to form a terrace' you can use almost anything old sleepers or rustic poles, log roll, bricks etc. the list is endless you are only held back with your imagination.

I'm sure the guys and girls on here will be able to help you out with even more wonderful ideas. ;) Hel.xxx.

Yes quite a lot of new builds in Rothbury over the last few years Joyce. Hope you enjoyed Cragside stronglodon I love to sneak in on summer nights when the grounds are closed and walk through the pinetum up to the big lake and have the whole estate to myself the Rhododendruns look fantastic in flower.
