Hello! I've joined this forum because I have a wonderful old glass terrarium - about 16 inches square - which I kept going for years and want to start up again. The only thing is that I used to be able to buy baby house plants to put into it which could be bought anywhere - garden centres, B&Q etc - but I have not been able to find them anywhere! So I guess I am going to have to try and grow some from cuttings, but I have no idea how to do it. I am hoping to learn how to get my small glass garden up and running and how to maintain it.

Hi bayingatthemoon, [IMG]... I used to have a terrarium for many years then I cleared it out & put it away.. My D in L was helping me clear out some cupbooards one day & we came across it.. She fell in love with it but was no gardener at that time so we got a lovely assortment of cacti & succulents, all in pots obviously.. We filled the terraium with sharp sand & some special pebbles & rocks we have collected on past holidays, soaked all the pots for 12hrs & then plunged them into the sand & sealed it... Now she has a little corner of the dessert on her lounge window.... It flowers when she adds a drop of water, just like the Mojave dessert..!!!:D

 Or you could do what a friend has done.. She bought allot of air plants & glued them to various stones & pieces of wood.. Then put a selection of lovely pebbles in the bottom a couple of knarled pieces of wood.. Soaked it all.. Soaked her plants & arranged them in it & sealed it up... I think that it is a really happy looking one too, very green & succulent & a new baby plant very often so growing well, it is very healthy... I will ask her to send me a photo, but don't hold your breath..!! :dh::D Just a couple of ideas for a terrarium with a difference... :thmb:

Thank you all for making me feel welcome! And for your suggestions about my terrarium. I'm not keen on cacti since I grew up in California and saw too many of them. I guess that's what made me so keen on more tender plants. The air plant idea is a really good one. I guess I just feel SO annoyed that I can't get baby houseplants anymore.
