Hi sorted and welcome to GC. I understand that you should treat them just as Jerusalem artichoke which the web informs me is a close relative. Good luck and everyone can then come round for yacon and chips. :D

Well we have some old friends on this thread.
Anyway, I bought a Yacon plant this morning, not sure why:biggrin:

But just wondering if things have moved on since this thread started, like any one else growing it.
If so, is it worth it?:)

I dug up my one and only Yacon ,plant today.
Broke a few digging them up as I didn't realise they would have gone so deep.

Not bad really considering I planted it a bit late, around mid July, now what to do with them.

The smaller tubers in the sieve are Oca, Oxalis tuberosa.

          Hi @pete,

Just found your old post after reading an article in one of the gardening mags that reckoned Yacons were a good alternative to spuds etc.

Wonder if you still grow them or even found them tasty or suggest they are worth a go ?

Hi @ricky101 , no I dont grow them any more, that was the first and last time.
Not something I would recommend really, a bit like very wet potato in texture with little real taste, if I remember correctly.
But I think you need to try a plant or two because I'm no expert on this kind of thing and different methods of cooking might just make them worth it.

            I'm sticking with spuds.
