A relative has asked me if I could help in identifying the plant in the attached photo (the one with green acorn-shaped objects on it and the white flower) . It apparently sprung up out of nowhere and is quite tall. As I haven't the faintest idea I was hoping that someone here might be able to help.

NOTE Duplicate photo attached by mistake.

    Hello,

Your exotic beastie is a datura. They are grown in gardens here, but in warmer countries they are a weed. Be aware that the plants are poisonous.

It looks like Datura stramonium to me.

IMG_2734.JPG Please can anyone identify this weed that grows in the most inhospitable situations. I call it "witches revenge" - it gives me the creeps because however careful I am with my weeding it haunts me.

Many thanks for the info, especially the bit about it being poisonous! I've passed it on and I gather that it is now an ex-plant.

My first thought last night was to look for a plant identification app, and then I remembered that I had joined a forum that was full of helpful gardeners who would know much, much more than me on the subject. A good decision on my part. :)

Pellitory of the wall. It is in the same family as nettles and Mind your own business ( useless bit of added info for you there) :)

To a certain degree I can understand the 'fear' of poisonous plants , but this applies to nearly all the plants we grow ! When my son was a toddler he was under strict instructions NEVER to touch any plant in my somewhat well-stocked garden unless authorised .Having now left home I can now cultivate specimens in my 'poison-garden' as I affectionately call it ; Monkshood , Deadly Nightshade , Phytolacca , Solanum laciniatum ,Hyoscyamus etc. to name but a few to my hearts content .
I always appreciate the somewhat dubious 'mystique' and history of these plants ; don't destroy them ; learn and grow them:th scifD36:
