Hello all, hope you are all keeping safe,

Can you please help me to identify this bush ? It flowers in early spring and smells nice.

However it needs some TLC. I am planning to prune it after flowers are over, in a week or two, otherwise, in the autumn new flowers gets ready for the next summer. Am I doing this right ?

Main question is how deep can I trim ? As you can see on the second picture, there are no leaves towards the center of the bush, so if a prune it down, say 20cm, I will end up with just branches and not a single leaf, this doesn't sound right. Otherwise, how can I make it smaller and tidy ?

    Many thanks,

    Charles

Don't quote me on this but I think it's a viburnum tinus.

I thought that and have a juvenile one growing in my garden, but would it get that woody? Also "smells nice", mine doesn't smell of anything! :dunno:

I'm just wondering if it's been cut back or maybe not getting much light on the bare patch?

I must have one the most neglected one around, it's in a pot I hardly touch it, just had a smell and it has a bit of a whiff but not much.

Never seen berries on mine. It is a weak smell for sure, nothing exceptional.

          A link about viburnum

I just read that you need two plants to pollinate, so that may be why you have no berries, my neighbour has one so that must be why mine has berries.
