I would be really grateful if anyone can help me. My fatsia is looking a little yellow and there are some small red red spots on the leaves. It is growing beneath a large conifer and I wondered if maybe this is making the soil ph too low. The soil is good fairly netral ... and all the other plants are more than happy.

    Any ideas???

Many thanks.... this is my first post so I shall wait with baited breath :sunny:

    Firstly, Welcome :)

Can you upload a photo? Does the red spot feel raised from the leaf?

Could be a number of things but sounds like it might be mites.

Hi Kingmacaroni I get these red spots on mine ,I usually just remove the leaves in the spring they soon grow back again, they do tend to suffer from leaf spot, especially when in the shade, hope this helps my friend:)

Will a Fatsia grow under a conifer  I thought plants that grow under conifers were very limited.

Hi Harry It will definitely grow in deep shade and in most soils plus in many places that not much else will grow, :)it is most under rated, and will grow under a large tree but not sure about a Conifer:)

I enjoy planting fatsia in a shady corner (one of the evergreen 'backbone' plants IMHO)

from what I have learned the leaves sometimes go yellow if it gets too much sun?

not sure about the red spots though

I have also found that in spring/summer, they enjoy a good deep watering once a week and once a month a good feed with a balanced fertilizer

Good evening and welcome to the site.:dbgrtmb: It sounds to me as if your Fatsia is suffering from rust. Just remove the affected leaves. Don`t, however add them to your compost bin.

I've know them go very yellow if recently planted, (in the last year).

I put it down to the roots needing to get established.

If its an established plant its probably starved, a good watering and some nitrogen should sort it out, although now is not the best time of the year for doing that.
