Help plug plants

I’ve recently purchased 24 plug plants and have no idea how to arrange them in my garden. I have repotted them and was thinking if I could just put the pot plants into the soil. So that they don’t dry out until I work out maybe next year where exactly to put them. Also I want to dig up and refresh my soil and would hate to move them again.

What do you think?

 

Probably, depends on what plants they are, how big they are now and what size pots you have put them into ? - will they have enough room to grow until next year ?

Hi,

A lot of those plants will grow quiet big this summer, the pots you have them in at the moment will only last for a month or two as they start to take off.

We would then pot them up into at least 5" full pots to give them room to grow for planting out in Autumn or next spring spring.

An alternative to 5" pots would be to put them all into some good soil with at least 300mm apart then when they start regrowing in spring, move them to where you want them to be.

With the heat wave due this week do make sure you keep them in a shaded area and regularly watered as young tender plants like thatcan so easily scorch and die in such heat /strong sunlight.

 

Thank you so much Ricky. Yes indeed I’ve notice that they are three times the size from when I got them. Which was only about four days ago.

I shall move them to a shady place and will water them thoroughly every day during the forthcoming heatwave. As you say I can always move them if I plant in the ground far apart.

im sorry to say that over the years I have managed to kill many plants. Now that I’m older it makes me feel so bad. When watching gardening programmes I recognise the plants I had, it makes me cringe!

Forum rules - you are not allowed to let plants die !

With this warm and wet weather, some form of Slug/Snail control wil be needed as they just love such young plants.

Appreciate that buying a mixed collection can be a problem in working out how best to position them, but once those plants have grown a bit and developed a good root system in the pots, it would be much better to plant them out before Autumn, so they are well rooted for Winter and will be more than ready for a good display next Spring.

Nothing to stop you moving them next year if you find they do not look right in the Spring.
They will be much more developed and able to withstand a move.

 

Well I haven’t killed any of my plug plants yet! They are growing happily in larger pots for the moment.

I have one plant which I have no idea what it is.

Can anyone please help. I downloaded a plant identifier app but it’s not right. The experienced gardener is what I need!
