It's that time of year again when autumn planting bulb lists start to circulate and I'm looking at using Himalayan Gardens Ltd for the first time. Does anybody have any experience of them.

        Hi Nigel

Yes, I bought some stuff from them earlier this year. My experience was mixed - but that was not necessarily their fault. I would buy from them again if for no other reason that they sell stuff that you can't get anywhere else and their prices are good.

I bought 3 Cautleya spicata and 3 Globba schomburkii, all of which are doing well.
I also bought a rhizome of Tacca chanterii and curcuma roscoeana, both of which rotted. I suspect that this was my fault of over watering, Curcuma is reputedly very difficult and Tacca is not easy.
I also ordered a Musa velutina and a Heliconia rostrata - both almost impossible to find elsewhere. However they told me their supplier had let them down and they weren't available.

I appreciate that more exotic stuff is difficult to grow, and I don't expect 100% success, so I am reasonably happy especially as they weren't expensive.

Edit: I forgot to add, they included a free gift of 5 Zaphyranthes bulbs, which were new to me and flowered well.

Thanks Peter. I have been tempted in previous years by their offerings. but this year they are the only place offering a couple of things I've been looking for. I'm going to give them a go as I've not seen any disaster stories and will feed back how it works out.

Agreed - that's the reason I would go back to them.

@NigelJ oh dear - why did you show us this nursery? There are lots of temptations - and prices look reasonable - Kaempferia rotunda is only £1.99...

Thanks for the introduction CarolineL - that's one I never looked at.

@CarolineL I can only apologise for putting temptation in your way.

Just ordered some Anemone, Amorphophallus, Arisaema, and a couple of lilies. See how it goes now.
