Just been on the site trying to get my tax refund sorted.

I'm not sure if I'm going mad but I didn't understand one of the questions.

It said give the adress your bank uses in connection with this account. or words to that effect.
Then underneath it said, "this is not the adress of your bank".

Did they mean what is my adress?

I've been on the site before and I find the whole set up confusing, its full of dead end pages and you can only get off them by using the back button all the time.

As for how you contact them via the site, I'm still trying to work that out.

Over here, if we want direct deposit for refunds, we need to supply bank institution number i.e. o4 for TD bank and then the transit number for the branch and then acct #.

Perhaps your tax input numbers don't match with your location/area?

If you're after a tax refund because you retired then, in theory, they should be working it out for you (don't hold your breathe). Otherwise you can contact them by phone (or other methods except email) but you need a lot of patience.

They sent me a letter saying they owe me money and I can claim it via the website, that's why I gave it a go.

I tried calling them some time ago, I was listening to a recording for 45minutes at which point I gave up.

They don't seem to be too clever IMO.
Although I have told them I've retired they are still giving me flat rate job expenses, it's not lots of money, but I don't want it adding up and ending up with an unexpected bill at some point.

          Yes it's your home address.
I guess they need to word it that way to accommodate self employed people who have a business address at some lock up garage etc.
I was self employed once and i hated dealing with HMRC.
Even the 'gateway' access is a pain in the rear.
I'd much rather be outside with a brew

Yes it's your home address they're asking for, I've had to claim back tax refunds several times now....they don't make it easy!!
I was self employed for 27 years and hated all tax related dealings and agree with JR their gateway access was a nightmare to use at times!

              Thank you @JR and @Upsydaisy .

I didn't think of that, a business adress, of course.
Couldn't work out how they could send me a letter but not know my adress.

This is a so called beta version, looks like it was designed by a 7yr old.

A few years ago I filled in all the endless questions with all the plethora of options on my HMRC gateway web forms and at last the pop up page stated 'we owe you £4000'
I was delighted with my efforts and waited for the cheque.
Turned out I'd put in one nought too many somewhere and i received a threat of prosecution letter instead!
I sorted it out with them without jail but I'm so glad to be retired now ;)

Fortunately I've been retired over 20 years and don't have any dealings with the taxman at all. :) :phew:.

Their website changes every year and the self assessment form is also changed just to keep us on our toes. I have had similar issues going round in circles trying to find where to enter some figures. They keep changing how to access the gateway too with phone text verification messages, which never works smoothly for me.

They have your money collected automatically via PAYE or your pension scheme and deliberately make it difficult to hand it back when they take too much.
