Sound good to me @redstar. We like exploring your back yard even though it is an extra 3000 miles away!

It was interesting. They were using the palm trees for palm oil, palm sugar and distilling from it. It's the palm oil tree with palm nuts. They were getting the oil from bleeding the tree and the sugar from grinding and boiling the palm nuts. They distilled from the sugar.

      The nut

The oil harvest reminds me of our sugar maple tapping.

Interesting. I could do the tapping and boiling and stirring but I believe I would want to be chanting about the toil and trouble.. :)

For 2023, we have several travel destinations planning in the states. Taking our show car about, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Vermont. (not in that order) When in those states we plan on at least two extra days to stay beyond the car show dates to explore that state. Also planning a Maine trip in between car show dates. Also in January will get down to our second home in New Bern, NC. for a week. Immediately, have a big family affair arriving from California and Mississippi for New Years Eve to Longwood Gardens and dinner out and raising the glass at midnight. Then on January 1, we all attend the football game in Philly, with a tailgate party, the teams are Eagles, and (forgot the name) its from Mississippi. For now enjoying my house, quiet, organizing, getting ready for tax season. on dry days more leaf relocation. But, I do enjoy being home.

Well, all our forward planning went down the drain with Covid arriving! :wallbanging:

We would have been away eleven times by now (some short breaks and others longer) but haven't left Shineyland since our last post above - nearly three years ago.

Can't see us having any break in 2023 but hope to be starting again at the end of 2023. In 2024 I hope to have a couple of trips to the Lake District, have tentatively organised a short trip down the Rhone. All subject to viruses and health :fingers crossed:

It's about time..haven't had a holiday since we bought the barn in 2005  It will have to be in January, though, the deadliest month of the year in the Northern hemisphere.
I want to go back to India but it's horribly complicated from here, whereas the French caribbean is a lot easier. La RĂ©union and Mauritius are also calling.....:wub2:

It seems a ridiculous price and complicated to fly from Toulouse to India (no direct flights). You could fly to London and then to India for half the price!

Exactly, @shiney! Even Bordeaux -Paris-Mumbai or Delhi means at least one internal flight in India. I'm not up for that  If we had winter flights to Gatwick, it would be so much easier to fly from UK.

We are having a week in Puerto De La Cruz in Tenerife next month, the Canaries and Madeira being the only places in Europe that are warm in Winter.
Same Hotel and month as last visit two years ago, We will probably go to the same gardens again but I need my exotics fix!.

Sometime good to return to the same holiday place, so you can get the "tourist " places done, and then just relax. Know which restaurants are the best and only go there . where things are. Just sit and do nothing.

If you like those places in the winter then it's good to remember that Madeira has its Carnival mid February. It's usually the same time as the Rio Carnival but smaller and, to a certain extent, more fun as they have two carnivals a few days apart with the second one being rather irreverent. :heehee: If you do ever decide to go then ask me about the best place to site yourself.

We went to the Carnival 4 years ago it was a wonderful experience.

Last year we went to Jersey, lots of walking and visiting the military sites, quite a unique place.

This year we are staying in the UK, we will be doing our usual Centre Parc family holiday plus a couple of hotel spa weekends, one paid for by Tesco Clubcard vouchers.
