We normally have our main holidays in Dec/Jan and go traipsing in out of the way places. Unfortunately, we weren't able to do it this winter and we haven't any idea what we shall be doing next winter .

I agree with Spruce, holidaying in the middle of the year seems wrong for gardeners  :nono: :dbgrtmb: but we shall still get a couple of breaks in the Lake District this year :dbgrtmb:

Anbody else take 'stack & stores' full of their homegrown veg, pots of herbs, home made stuff, etc. with them on their hols? I also take enough hombrew to last the holiday, plus try and find something in the local hedgerows to bring back home (obviously I'm not suggesting taking suitcases on veg onto flights!)

We are staying in Portugal. Missed last year's holiday due to horrendous weather ... both where we were going and at home ... ... freak ice storms and torrential rain end of April!

Now the ferry to Madeira has been cancelled so we will go back to the Arrábida Natural Park region south of Lisbon as we have in the past.

My annual main holiday is two weeks in Rutland with a life long friend, with dawn til dusk fishing in some stunning out of the way places. Last year we fished a lake where the surrounding countryside was ablaze with colour from wild flowers, saw King Fishers flitting along the lake, saw Stoats, Grass Snakes, Wood Peckers, Red Kites, Rabbits by the hundred, and turning around on my seat would find a couple of deer walking past or just grazing about 20 feet away, all in a day.
Fantastic!!! The only drawback is that we literally do fish until the Sun has gone down and then we're struggling to find somewhere to eat, still we're always able find a good pint!:heehee::D

I've been to many places around the world

my all time favourite is a small resort in south africa in the eastern cape .... called Umngazi river bungalows ... miles away from civilization and very remote

been there 7 times and will go there again when funds allow

5 star food, best wine in the world ... small resort with only a few people, nannies to look after small kids .... right on the beach between a river .... loads of wildlife, some of the best fishing in Africa, etc

a week there feels like a month ...

and if you have pounds, it is very cheap (from £60 per person per day which includes all meals which are 5 star breakfasts, 5 coursemeals for lunch and dinner plus scones/tea at 10am and fresh fish / oyster snacks in the afternoon in the pub) ....

only prob, is that it is fairly expensive to get there from the UK (approx £600 return airfair)

very popular and you have to book well in advance .... I will be going there again (even my children remember the place and keep on asking to go back .... and the last time we were there was when they were approx 6 years old and 8 years old)

everyone who I have recommended to go there, have said they will definately go again

Welcome to Umngazi River Bungalows & Spa
