I have a hollyhock in one of my borders, and it is slap bang in the middle of the bit where I want to plant my beans.

Ironically, I moved it to this location last year when the fences were being replaced.

Now, it hasn't flowered in the time we have been here, although another one in the garden we have seen twice now; before moving, it wasn't the healthiest looking thing in the world, however it looks much happier now (whether this would encourage a flower out of it or not, I have no idea).

I really need to have it away from where it is, but I am torn whether I try moving it again, and put it back in the huff as it did last year, or do I haul it out and replace it later with one from seed that I am intending to bring on shortly?

Here is the offender on the left - - I am also torn as to what to put between the two other shrubs (if anything?) - I was thinking some foxgloves?

Believe it or not, it was only about three leaves last year, rusty ones at that too - - that is why I have held off, and held off from whipping it out; but, I just know that if I haul it out and move it, even digging up a wide/deep root-ball, it will take the pet with me again.

For what it's worth I think it would be a shame to destroy a healthy plant just for aesthetic reasons; after all one of the main reasons we garden is to create life, be it flower or vegetables. If it's just about what colour looks nice here or there then we could acheive the same by painting. It's a healthy plant, obviously likes its spot so why not let it stay and plant the beans around it... just a thought

A perfectly valid point but should that extend to a plant we've nurtured and is perfectly healthy?

Why not stick some beans in between?

I do feel bad that I rescued it last year, only to want to move it this year - and to make matters worse, I have discovered a rose behind it that I forgot I even planted ; what are the chances of it flowering this year if it hasn't in the past?

Also, would the beans not want a frame to scramble up - or would they be happy with canes?

I'm sure it will flower this year.
Yes, the beans will need support canes. You could plant a row along the back behind the shrubs, and give them a pole each to climb up, maybe lean them against the fence and tie them in. Or plant in threes between the shrubs and give each three a cane tripod to go up.
