Any recommendations for a 25m hosepipe? I've seen hozelock, larger and some other brands but just wondering if anyone has bought one they're really impressed with

My answer to a previous post about hosepipes. It keeps on goingwith few signs of age remarkably.

Well @pam as you request! I use Tricoflex yellow hose. I bought quite a lot of it (about 100 yds) over 25, yup 25, years ago and it's still going strong. The majority of it stays outside throughout the winter so regularly gets completely frozen. We use it in the winter to keep the horse's trough topped up. A few sections have been split over the years but very few despite it being driven over a fair number of times/been dragged about on driveways etc. Even at it's vast age it's still more pliable than new cheap stuff and therefore easy to attach connectors to it. Mine is so old now it's dulled down to quite a fetching pale yellow but new stuff is quite bright but good for reducing the likelihood of tripping over it. I reckon my hose will "see me out" as my granny used to say. Only reservation would be that I don't know if the products the company sells today are as good as they used to be? You'll no doubt be able to get it on the net. I got mine from a wholesale horticultural industry supplier who was happy to sell it to me.

I`d just avoid Hozelock. My anti kink hozelock is kinkier than the kinkiest fetish club in Amsterdams redlight district.

I think I've been there lol

        Avoid hozelock. Tick.

Think I'll find a tricoflex and see how it goes

And a follow up question - any recommendations for fittings / connectors? Hozelock ones always leaked. Are the brass type any good?

Well didn't know that @JWK! I wonder if my antique hose was? I did qualify my post saying the quality may have altered, unlikely to be up these days! I get really cross when you go to buy another article of the same brand only to find it's COMPLETELY different to your old 1. Hunter wellies (used to be manufactured in Dumfries, now made in China!, so yes expensive but well worth the money due to their comfort and durability) and Spear and Jackson immediately spring to mind. Think I'm right in saying that S&J sold the right for the likes of Argos and Homebase to use their name on tools manufactured god knows where but label them S&J. All I know is that I now buy cheap wellies which last about 2 years (my old Hunters lasted nearly 20 and were worn a huge amount as dealt with horse= MUD!) and after having to replace my late father's Spear and Jackson digging fork (about 60 years old and no I don't exaggerate)with another labelled S&J which lasted about a month I don't bother much with labels and go by experience of how something looks as tho it's been made.

If Kristen was still around he would certainly recommend Geka:

              http://gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/threads/geka-vs-hozelock-hose-fiittings.33636/#post-437331

For me I now use the brass hozelock fittings, cheapest place to get them is Toolstation. All fittings perform better with a silicon spray every now and then.

                Yes, where is Kristen?

I'll probably go for brass but will have a read of the linky, thanks

For the last 25 years, I've used 2 x 25 metre long Hozelock hoses connected together. Still perfect...what more is needed?

When will British companies realise theres a huge market out there now for quality products that may cost a bit more than the cheap inferior Chinese stuff but will last much longer.
Weve all done it ,buy a cheaper bargain only to be let down by it. Id rather spend a bit more and get something thats well made.My best hose is 20 years old, lawnmower 30 years.
