    Hello all

    I hope you are well.

I have a small Hosta, planted in September 2019, which is unfortunately, too far forward in the border.

What is the procedure to move a small Hosta and when can I move it?

    Thanks in advance

    Kevin

Easy plants to move and now is ideal. Dig around it like you would with any other plant and transplant, give it a generous amount of water and a feed with chicken manure or similar all round feed.

They move just like any other plant, generally seem very tough.

When they grow into large clumps we just divide them with a spade, replant and they grow away very quickly.

Often plant them in pots, 3/4 of the way sunk into the ground with a band of copper tape around or just under the rim of the pot to help keep the slugs away.
That allows us to move them out of the way if the slugs do get onto them and we can replace them for something more attractive for the rest of the year like fuchsias which last well into Autumn.

    Hello @ricky101 and @Perki

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

We have just had a heavy rain shower so I will wait until it dries somewhat before moving it.

With a small Hosta how deep am I likely to have to dig?

    Thanks

    Kevin

Best to move it whilst it is wet although if you have heavy clay soil go carefully to avoid compaction.

    Hello @JWK

I have Loam(ish) and thought moving it after a heavy downpour would not be ideal, however, with what you say, it should be fine.

    Thanks

      Hello all

Well, I have managed to move the Hosta to it's new home.

I sprinkled some Blood Fish and Bone around it and watered it well.

Hopefully, it will recover and continue to thrive.

      Thanks for your help.

      Kevin
