Is there a way to get rid of weeds in block paving without jet washing or scraping them out? We have a long driveway that seems to get over run with weeds and grass every year and it looks a mess.

The only option I have is Glyphosate applied with a spray pump . It's best to wait until the weeds are actively growing , say mid April. I think you would really need to jet wash 3 weeks later to remove all the dead weeds and debris . Then brush in silver sand ( kiln dried sand ) to fill the joints.
You can buy undiluted Glypho on Ebay , you then can dilute it to 3% for spraying . Screwfix have cheap and good sprays.

My only concern is that I would have to re-do it all again later in the season. I have seen drives where there are dips in areas and blocks are loose, through jet washing.

I personally don't use chemicals because of the bees/pets so I tend to use boiling water or vinegar spray, the perennial types I dig out

I use very few chemicals here but glyphosate is the solution kazzawazza. It is quick, efficient and saves an awful lot of work.

This probably won't help but I had the same problem with my paving and in the end I cemented in between the slabs.

Mmmm the drive is far too long to cement in between the blocks, as the block paving not only goes down the side of the house it also goes across the front of the house too. It takes me about a week to scrape the dead weeds out between the blocks.

I like Wee Tam's approach and we did buy a weed wand from Wilkos but it's only really good for the big weeds - husband said its a mans tool anyhow and before I can use it he would have to do a risk assessment.

I appreciate what your saying kazzawazza, as you have many blocks to clear but I just couldn’t face clearing the weeds once or twice a year. Now I only have to clean my paving without a weed in sight., well on the paving of course.

Something like this should make easy work of it.

Weed flame throwers are great fun to use , but they don't kill the roots . The weeds will spring up again within a week.

There is only one long term solution, if you dont want to spend repeated time, and its glyphosate.
The weed gun is a temporary option
