Mesembryanthemum plants which are also called ice plants are a group of flowering succulents and they are also part of the current popular trend in gardening and houseplants. Mesembryanthemum plants has fleshy leaves, unique shapes and colors, and low maintenance requirements, all these makes them a great choice for gardens and container planting.

I love all kinds of Ice Plants and have different kinds of them. They need hot, dry and sunny conditions to do well.

I am sure someone in the UK will come along shortly to advise, assuming that is where you are. It helps to put your location so you get a correct answer.

I believe they are grown as half hardy annuals in the UK. Never tried them so, but the Livingstone Daisy is a nice looking plant. :)

Forever the optimist, I just bought Mesembryanthemum Crystallinum seeds with the intention to grow it as a houseplant by my cool, bright kitchen window.

Here are some links, this is apparently a US site so the growing instructions don't apply but it has a good selection of species shown. Mesembryanthemum Plant - Ice plant and Fig Marigold Growing Guide

I grow Lampranthus coccineus a close relative also called an "ice plant"; it's been in a sunny well drained bed for the past 7 or 8 years, it has benefited from the removal of a neighbours large ash tree shading that bed.

I have grown them very successfully here in Scotland. A good few years back now. I think I bought the plants from B&Q or Homebase.
