    Hi All,

We bought a moulded largish bird bath this summer and I stupidly filled it with water from the water butt (which I didn't know should be treated at the time, DOH!).

Since the Summer the birdbath keeps going green, even though I only use filtered water now.

The Magpies don't like having their baths in it when it is green, they just land on the edge look at it, then fly off!

Obviously I don't want to use chemicals incase they stay in the bath on the surface and hurt any birds, insects, so is there any way to stop it going green please?

Many thanks in advance. :blue thumb:

You could try one part distilled white vinegar to 9 parts water, have to use a hard brush.

Yes, I use it for throat problems. I have a small spray bottle with it diluted with water to spray into my throat. It is a good gargle. I am talking about the 3% food grade type, NOT hair bleaching or industrial at 6% and 90%. It is marvellous for cuts ... will stop bleeding instantly used directly. I use it for cleaning my ears and have used it on my cats when they have had bites. The body itself produces Hydrogen Peroxide.

A squirt in bird bath water will not harm them assuming the water is changed regularly. Okay,, my fountain is 3-tiered and the water kept circulating when it is on for about 4-6 hours a day ... but still when not on and the birds and cats can drink from it.

Here are some general uses for it, but look up ingesting it, you would be surprised.

No much ,much weaker stuff @Logan, although some use the weaker one to comb through their hair to get a 'sun kissed ' look.....but I wouldn't recommend it.

It's the strength you get when you buy from the pharmacy. I pour it on open cuts, etc so if it doesn't hurt me getting put on an open wound, it should be safe for creatures that have a stronger immune system. :)
