Superb, Rich .. I'm just now getting into flying things ... a new hobby and very interested ... although my photography is a bit much to be desired. (What's flying or buzzing near you).

Brilliant maths aren't they. Very clever of you to get such a good picture usually they are just a fuzzy blur as the moth's wings flap so fast.

      Wow Rich!!!!!

What stunning "action" photos!!!! I love the fact you can see the proboscus curled up in the first photo, and down the flower in the second. You should put then in this month's competition - what better example of "Natures' Harvest"??!!! [IMG] [IMG]

I just love these moths. The first time I saw one in real was 4 years ago when we took our eldest grandson to Mallorca and these moths were flying around the flowers where we lazed at the pool area. At first I thought that they were hummingbirds although I knew that they only live in the new world. Louis, our grandson, wanted to know what they were, so for lack of a name we said that they were hummingbirds. After that, and even now, we call them "Granny's Hummingbirds".

We had the first of these in our back garden two years ago, when there was an influx of them from the coninent.Since then they overwinter in amongst leaf and compost litter ready to hatch out in the spring.

So lovely to see, though it took some time to get a decent photo of one
