Not that distant actually - Poland. My name is Rafał and I love to garden. I have my own 50 yards of what's suposse to become a garden one day. I've registered on your British forums because after all You are a nation with great gardening traditions. Im also sure there are many experienced gardeners among you from whom I can learn something new. My zone is 6b, winters are probably harder here. In about a month (february/march) I will be starting tomato seedlings for my greenhouse:) So what do you do in a rainy Britain to protect tomato from Blight?

Welcome to Gardeners Corner @FellowGardener :sign0016: I have many Polish friends now living and working here in the UK, and from what I understand from them, your winters are indeed harder than we usually experience here. Blight is a difficult one to combat, with Bordeuax Mix being one of the few things that might help (if you can get it).

I look forward to sharing experiences, both in the garden and in life, with you and hope you feel right at home here :)

Lovely to have you join us Rafal from Poland :)
I'm going to turn your question around a little: what do *you* do in Poland to protect tomatoes from Blight? :dunno: Which varieties work best for you, in your climate?
Sometimes our summers can be wet but, other times, our summers can be as dry as a bone!
2017 was a good year (for me) for tomato growing, but I only grew one type: Tumbling Tom.
2016 was a poor year (for me) and I grew a couple of different varieties given to me by a friend.
My best ever year was 2013 when I grew several different varieties plus had plants pop up in my garden which I didn't even plant! :heehee: But that was at a different location.

Have a good nosey around the forums and I'm sure it won't take you long to turn your 50 yards into a place you will be most proud of! :dbgrtmb:

Welcome @FellowGardener to the forum. I feel like I'm in a halfway house between you most of the members, as I live in Belgium.

Having gardened in the Welsh Marches (the border country between England and Wales) and the Chilterns (chalky low hills, to the west of London), i find that a Belgium year is slightly different. The summer and winter is a little more intense (so hotter/colder), and a little longer, with spring and autumn shorter. So it's not the more even 3-month per season that I was used to.

Blight!! Don't get me started! We have grown great tomatoes, but then the local farmer grew potatoes in the field on the other side of our valley. One year we had less than 1/2 kg of toms from 8 (initially) healthy gardener's delight plants. Now we just grow "tumbling tom red", which seem fairly resistant, and a heritage yellow pear tomato. It grows like a triffid, an old-fashioned climbing cordon, but the tomatoes are lovely!
