I'm looking to divide, and replant, a bamboo and need to contain it, so looking to purchase a large suitable container but where?

We bought three from Wyvale garden centre.
They weren't that expensive. less than the 12" ceramic posts (we've no end of!)

Big. I left the handles on for moving it about.

    P1020682.JPG

Bigger. I cut the handles off. But I can still move it.

    P1020668.JPG

Biggest. This has inset handles so I can drag it across the patio if need be.

We've had them for about ten years, "only the plants have been changed from those for which they were originally purchased."

Good morning @Who am I? just a word of caution IMHO that won't contain Phyllostachys nigra.I have some of these ,if you use plastic the runners will just find a way through the bottom of the containers to prevent this Prepare the pot by placing a mesh filter cloth in the bottom, covering the drainage holes. Add a 2- to 4-inch layer of coarse sand over the cloth, and top it with a 12- to 14-inch layer of high-quality potting mix. Top the container off with a thin layer of mulch.I have used this method on some of mine, hope this helps;)

Thank you for your comments and for your detailed description wiseowl. I bought quite a mature Nigra 2 years ago and cut it in half, one half is in a Planter high up on our balcony and is doing well. Other half is in a thick plastic trug (no drain holes) planted in the ground. We live by the sea on the south coast and the trug has been in a kind of wind tunnel. We had good success at our previous house with a nigra in a trug. It did well but was in a sheltered position. Later this week I plan to dig the trug out, divide it again and reposition, hence the need for another container. I'll be able to see how the roots have been behaving and will post pic. Thanks again.

Finally got the Nigra out the ground. After two and a half years the tub was still intact and all the roots contained. I gave some duff gen in an earlier post when I said there were no drain holes, there are. When I planted it there were 5 fully grown canes, now there are 11 and 4 new shoots. Pot didn't seem to be particularly root bound. IMG_20190619_164608_compress86.jpg IMG_20190619_164557_compress3.jpg IMG_20190619_164623_compress47.jpg

This one was a problem because I sited it badly wiseowl. It always looked spindly with few leaves, by re-siting it and dividing it I hope I will have 4 happy plants for the price of one. (I'm a Scot!)

You didn't mention what size containers your 10 Yr old plants are in wiseowl. 49 litre, 75 litre? (Thanks for your help on this) . I'm going to try your planting suggestion on one and see how it goes compared to replanting as before.
