I cannot seem to find a name for this on the internet now it's in flower. The only one that keeps popping up is Iceland poppy? I've looked at the flowers this evening and noticed that they are closing at night. It came with some pots I bought last year so can't ask the previous owner. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks :blue thumb:

The leaves don't look right for Iceland poppy. Look a bit closer to the Welsh poppy but still not right. :noidea:

Maybe @Silver surfer can help. :fingers crossed:

Looks closer to a Californian Poppy, but I'm not convinced it's a poppy.

There's a variety of Anemone ranunculoides called 'lanciniata' which looks close....

That's got 5 petals and the image posted appears to have 6, but I was googling both anemones and ranunculus earlier trying to find a match and there was some anemones with a closer match of leaf but not quite right.

The closest I got was Anemone coronaria (6 petals), but couldn't find one with yellow flowers.

Anemones have 5 or 6 petals, poppies 4 or 6, so we're on the right lines.....

Ranunculus acris made the most sense to me too looking at that foliage, but then I noticed Jasmine's plant has 6 petals and the ranunculus has 5...

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I'm still non the wiser
I have taken more pictures of the plant I have and some from a common buttercup from the allotment this morning. The flowers seem almost identical but the leaves are much different and also including the flower stems mine is nearly 2ft tall.
                  Here's more of mine.

That one at your allotment looks like R. repens (Creeping Buttercup) from the leaf shape. :)

That shows a flower with 5 petals, but the image in post #1 showed 6 petals  Did you post an image of a deformed flower?

If the flowers have 5 petals it's probably a Meadow Buttercup

Both flowers are off the same plant :rolleyespink: I think you're right though. it is a meadow buttercup :love30:
Is it wise to keep it in the border? By that I mean can it be a menace.

Just want to also say thank you everyone for your help :dbgrtmb:
