    Hello all,

This is probably a very simple task for you, could you help me identify this plant?
It was planted next to a row of cabbage and broccoli in the Walled Gardens in Gibside Park.

I tried a Google image search but I couldn't really find anything. The most common suggestion was Hellebore but I am unsure.

    Thank you!

        Hi Pete,

That's what Google Image Search told me, too so it might actually be Hellebore. I just thought that they were very pretty and I wouldn't mind having some in my garden.

        Thanks for your help! :)

Definitely Helleborus x orientalis. A rather muddy pink form though. There are better colour forms.

          Hi Palustris,

Maybe the plant was a bit cold, it's only February after all :snork:

          Thanks for your help!

It appears to be a small petalled variety of Hellebore x orientalis. There is a new variety of small petalled ones but I've no idea whether they might be those.

You can get a whole variety of colours and, nowadays, there are a lot of multi-petalled varieties as well.

              Hi shiney,

Thanks for the info! I just thought they were very pretty, so I will have a look at the available varieties and plant some in the garden! :)

P.S. Mrs Tea have a look now in nurseries and garden centres.
Choose the colour etc you like. Each year it will be identical when it flowers.
The prices have really come down in the past 15 or so years.

Helleborus Walberton's Rosemary is one presently for sale here, it is a newish hybrid between H. niger, the Christmas Rose, and H. xhybridus..
