Hi, I was wondering if there is an easy way to identify during winter, which shrubs are spring flowering and which shrubs are summer/autumn flowering? I know that as a rule spring flowering shrubs flower on last years growth and summer flowering shrubs flower on the same years growth. Does this mean that at this time of year (winter), anything with buds on is a spring flowering shrub?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Basically the only real way to tell is know what the shrub is.

So you really need to ID them before doing any winter pruning.

With a close up pic at this time of the year,(and perhaps with an overall shot of the plant), quite a few shrubs can still be ID ed, although there are bound to be some that are not so easy when not in leaf.
