I live in a semi detached house and my neighbour as had cavity wall insulation today.
No problem it was a bit loud so I went shopping while they were drilling the walls.
When I came back they were just finishing off.
I went into the house and noticed it seemed a bit dark in the lounge.
The conservatory roof was covered in red brick dust.
I went out and asked the builder if he was going to clean up before he left.
Yes love , no problem we were just going to do it. Yes Right:rolleyes:
I heard some water being thrown over the roof and they were in the van and gone.
When I looked I could not believe the mess they had made.
The roof was still covered with the red dust so was the upstairs back window sill and window and the front up and down stairs sills and windows.
All my plants in the front garden were also covered.
    What a mess.
I don't think its fair I have to put up with this when it wasn't even me having any work done.
    I am very angry.
But feel much better telling you.:o:D

It might be worth having a friendly word with the neighbour who has had this work done. Perhaps they can come and clean up or get the company back who made the mess and get them to clean up.

Lyn you shouldn't have to accept this situation. Go around your neighbours and explain what has happened, they must be your first port of call and must get the builder back to clean up the mess he has left.

If I were you I would take a few photos anyway, just in case you need to take things a bit further than this initial gentle approach.

Cavity wall insulation is a specialist job and to my knowledge needs some sort of insurance backed guarantee, this means that the builder will have to belong to a trade body that will monitor performance, so you will have some recourse to complain to the trade body. Also most councils provide a discount scheme via preffered trademen for insulation, so if your neighbour has used that then a call to the council will be in order, but these will be your later resorts.

Yeah I agree with init sister. Have a nice word with the neighbour they prob don't even realise. I never considered that it would be so messy.

Just invite them over to see what you are talking about. Hopefully it will register, that they need to do something about it. Hope you had a nice history with them already. You could suggest that they hire someone to clean it up--if they look upset over it. Its going to be touchy, depending on your established relationship what ever it may be.

    I'm over the shock now:D

It's a good job I'm able bodied , I got the hose out and washed it all down.
I couldn't approach the lady next door.
She is 80 and only lost her husband in February.
And her only son last year.
    It isn't her fault.
The builders were 100% to blame.
I wish I had thought to take the name off the van.
I would have reported it to the council.
But there was a door knock a couple of weeks ago about grants so they may just be back in the area.;)

In that case Lyn, as soon as the mouth that lives next door to me clears off I will pm you the agents details. I can guarantee as a neighbour I solemnly promise to never do that. And I will never let my cats wee and poo on your garden.. Pinky swear.

    Lyn,
if you truly want the name of the company, it would be very easy to get it.
In a few days go over to the 80 year old, and say, "what a nice job that company did, my friend is thinking of having the same work done and would love a recommendation, can you tell me the name of the company that did the work."

And there you have it Lyn.

I feel sorry for your eldery neighbour, what a lot of bad luck she's had. I just hope she has not been taken advantage of by some cowboy builder who has overcharged her and not done a proper job.

Why don't you go around and mention it to her anyway? Tell her it wasn't much of a problem as you've cleaned it up now, but maybe she will tell you the name of the builder - then I can think of a few things to even things up a bit ranging from reporting them to their trade body to letting them have their brick dust back via their letter box! :D

Yes I might just do that.
But I'm sure they will be back, I'll leave it a few days.

I forgot to add I was washing the house down in the rain , so all the neighbours think I have finally cracked.:D
It was so bad even the rain wasn't washing it away,it was just making it worse:rolleyes:

Lyn, with the age of your neighbour it's most likely she went through one of the companies that are advertised through EAGA or the like. I'm sure the council will know which one it was as the cost is paid through government money. that is as long as she's not a millionaire sitting there but anything less & you can pretty much get a grant for it.

That's of course if you can get any sense of the council workers, they're top of my leaderboard for never actually being responsible for any work - it's always another departments' job. Then if you can get a grunt that makes any sense out of them, hooray:mad: Coming in close to them at the moment is the Pension Service:mad:

    cheers

I'm not a very good shot with the hose.
Being angry at the time didn't help.
I must of looked like some mad woman.
Throwing water about in the rain muttering to myself.:o:D
I dare say my friend over the road will tell me today .:)
