So very true, @redstar , thanks!

I have cardamom pods from goodness knows when just because cardamom was very hard to find at the time.

It could be that the fashionable spice racks tell us to need sage even if we never use it. My lovely spice shelf has labelled jars and unlabelled ones for those we use all the time. Oregano, just look and you can see which jar to take, thyme the same.

I use spices and herbs all the time. :blue thumb:

I made a chicken curry yesterday using, fresh onion, garlic, ginger and chillies and then cinnamon sticks, cardamon pods, cloves, roasted and ground cumin, fenugreek, mustard seeds and coriander plus powdered turmeric.

          It came out well. :)

On Friday i have 2 fried eggs with baked beans and oven chips.

Saturday i have baked beans tinned tomatoes on toast with 1 fried egg.

I used to try to have just 1 egg a week but my thoughts have changed about that.

I don't use the main oven very much, just the top oven to cook the chips and small things.

Hubs is brilliant in the kitchen, I'm not saying that I can't/ don't cook as obviously I did when our boys were here. I was the one doing the cooking during the week but
now that hubs had retired and especially during the winter months he does most of it.

On Friday we had Spinach and Sweet Potato Frittata and salad.

Yesterday we had an Iranian meal with salad and we will have the same again today.

Love it when you can made a big meal that will last a couple of days. :)

Must say we don't eat many eggs, our youngest does, at least 3 a day, but he also eats lots of chicken and salad and goes to the gym every day before or after work.

When we do have an egg on toast ( once maybe twice a wk) then it's always poached.

That's what the chicken curry is going to do. I did eight chicken thighs :blue thumb:

Lunch today is a bowl of the veggie soup I made yesterday followed by half an avocado with smoked salmon. :)

I used to make the roast beef for 2 days, but now i put the 2nd half in the freezer for the next Sunday. Also cut down on meat we have but not a big meat eater anyway. I'd rather have the veg but I'm not keen on sweet potatoes, celeriac and red sweet peppers. More like potatoes, peas, sprouts, cabbage, carrots, red fried onions with garlic and chilli, always use sunflower oil for frying.

Going to make a corned beef and onion pie for dinner.which I spice up slightly with a pinch of Cumin. We'll freeze half for another day. Neither of us like eating the same things two days in a row.

No we're not big meat eaters either now. Finally managed to get hubs to go meat free at least a couple of days a week. I was a vegetarian before I married and if it was just me to consider I would still be....give me a plate of veg or salad any day. I don't even like tofu or some of the other protein alternatives either.

We don't always eat the same if we've made a big serving ,we freeze it too. Sometimes though things aren't the same if they've been frozen, definitely impairs some flavours

Rearranged my spice trolley the other day, I keep them in their same store bought containers. Distributed between two, two shelf rotating shelves tucked into a long thin cupboard next to my stove. Anyway, arranged them in alphabetical order---cannot believe I have so many starting with the beginning of the alphabet, then a few the end of it.

Curries improve with age but others don't work so well. :noidea:

Mrs Shiney and I quite often eat different food. She's not into red meats and I am. So I sometimes cook different things for us. She will often have a veggie casserole, with herbs and spices, and I shall cook some lamb or beef for myself but we will both have the same veg.

We have a lot of soups and they are all vegetarian. :blue thumb:

That how I have mine, had these two-tier lazy Susan things for years. Have mine ordered by sweet, savoury, herby, etc. Had a Sunday ride out then made the pie, well giant pasty and did carrots to go with it (have diced carrots and potatoes in the pie too.
