I know I should have already started to feed my plants but... One has to remember to pick up the stuff...

Reading the instructions..... I do thinks like that!

It said water around the base of the plant avoid getting feed on the foliage...

Hum, not easier when plants are tiny and close to the compost or pack in baskets/containers...

So how important is it to avoid getting it onto the foliage... If it's really important I'm a bit stuck.....

Depends on the plant type Ellie. I got rather a strong solution of Miracle Gro lawn feed on my dahlias last year and it burned the leaves. Looked horrible actually.

Some (larger) plants like being fed through the foliage, depends what they are and the strength of the feed. If your plants are tiny then they probably don't want too much feed right now, how long have they been in the compost? (usually there are enough nutrients to last 6 weeks).

Humm, so from mid march others various times since...

I did use half strength though, as this was what my old bottle said with young plants seedlings.. and did my best where I could spray at the bottom of the plants, but a few this was just impossible

It's the first year that I've had such young plants, or even seedlings as it's the first greenhouse I've had... Mind you saying that I think I only kinda of feed my containers once! Watered with out fail....

But I'm very weary of using anything chemical, in the past always avoided it unless it was the old fashioned bone and fishmeal stuff...

Ellie you don't need to feed seedlings, as John says there's enough nutrients in the soil for around six weeks and by that time they are usually potted on into fresh compost. I've never fed any seedlings or young plants, in fact I don't feed anything in pots if it is eventually being planted out. :)
