There's a bit of a dead area in our garden that sits between the neighbour and the greenhouse. One way in is through a dark little walkway and the other is at 'tother end and more or less open albeit from a bit of another dead area (working on what to do with that next year).
There's many years worth of accumulated and neglected weeds in here so I have finally got round to mowing, raking and mowing to clear the area and now started on creating a jungle area for the kids to walk through. There's only two pathways but I want to be able to have height and density so if you're on one path you can't see through it.
This is as far as I've got and I've put in a sketch plan...

Have managed to grab a few more ferns from in the greenhouse (they're growing everywhere in the decrepit place!) So stuck them in as a starter. Have also just out to get some fig tree cuttings from someone nearby who is having the tree removed so will see how they take and maybe add some into the jungle

What is the big stems on the right of the last picture.

Arundo donax and Tetrapanax are good jungle like plants.

Very good question! I think it's either some form of dogwood or viburnum. Good all year round plant, white flowers in late spring. It's been there for years and years and needs some attention to thin out the dense branches

You'll only need one fig tree @Loofah, trust me! Especially if the soil is rich. +1 for Arundo donax variegata. What about Eriobotrya, Canna 'Wyoming', Melianthus major, a couple of passionflowers?

Will have to research some of those. I have a list going which is being added to all the time :)
Good point, I have some in pots so can lob some in the ground :)

Don't forget bamboo. A few fargesia will give density and stem interest. Fatsia, phormium and cordyline help

I'm very cautious about planting bamboo but certainly can stick one in a pot :)

Ok. How big / spread does fargesia get?
