Can somebody please tell me why so much police time is being spent on this? What is the point??? :dunno: what can possibly be achieved from doing this? I find these historic abuse charges very irritating, particularly when the person cannot defend himself.

Because as much as historic cases are hard to prove and costly the possibility of a cover up at police, government or any other level needs to be investigated. To cover up a cover up would be unacceptable beyond belief to the basic principles of a democracy.

I sort of agree I'm afraid.
Jimmy Saville was a wrong 'un - most people sort of twigged that whilst he was still alive. But I cannot believe for one minute that he could have enough muscle to keep 400 odd (?) people quiet. There are people who are equally as twisted who will make false allegations if they think they will make money and there is the danger of this happening with the Ted Heath case. I would assume that for the old bill to make a public appeal over a public figure that they must have intimate evidence from several unconnected complainants which leads them to believe that there is some mileage in this. The trouble with such public appeals is that it makes it hard for the general public to be objective about this.

The dead can't speak but the living can...
I suppose removing honours from these people is some comfort to those who have been the victims.
Shame some look at it as a way of getting money though.
Anyone who lies to gain money is risking their liberty as the police are not daft. This theory of people making things up to gain cash is not as easy for them to do.

There are some rotten apples at high level .

Its always the same in the UK,

Delay investigations until those who are protected are allowed to die before alegations are allowed to be heard in public.

Stretch out the investigation so long as to make the public numb by it and brush everything under the carpet.

Pay lawyers, barristers Lords & Ladies millions of pounds in fees so they can spend months arguing the finer points in law that the common man is bewildered by.

Then to add insult to injury summ up by stating that we will learn from our mistakes knowing fine well that no leasons will be learnt ,no one will be prosecuted,no victim will feel closure and it will all happen all over again.

Justice in the UK ? Youi must be joking right :dunno:
