    Hello

This may have been asked before. :) We're a Mac family... and I'm the one who likes taking pictures. :) So I download everything into iphoto which has some limited editing and enhancing features - I've used them when I entered the monthly competitions and I really enjoy photoing my plants.

Do any of you use a Mac and use another photo editing package other than the bog standard iphoto. Hope that makes sense!! In iphoto I can only do a few things - enhance colour and crop so once I have done that there's not much else I can try.

    Kate :)

      Thanks Marley!

I'll check that out. I've also asked the hubby if he fancies getting me a photo editing package for my birthday as I am quite a keen photographer. :)

      Hi Kate.
If you are really serious about your photography Photo Shop is about as good as you'll get and it works with Macs. It's quite expensive but there's a cut down version - Photo Shop Elements, that may work with Macs. I'm not sure if it does but it would be worth checking out. If you have a student in the family you can buy Photo Shop at a vastly discounted price.

I used Macs for several years for photo processing and for some serious professional business/administration but have had to revert to Windoze at home for a number of reasons though I'd love to still be able to run a Mac too.

        Thanks Dave

I will look into that as well. My husband has told me he uses gimp but he's not such a keen photographer as me and it's a hobby I hope to expand on. :) So I will look into photoshop too. I need a new macbook too though as mine is getting a bit battered and had already had a new hard drive. :) Better start saving!

Another option is if you have a friend or member of the family who is a student or teacher you can get photoshop at a huge cut down price

        Microsoft UK Education - Students - Software4Students

That's a link to there official microsoft page as the actual website looks horribly fake but I have it on good authority from a number of college lecturers and they have rave reviews online ^^

          Wow thanks Aesculus.

One of my best mates is in teacher training. I shall have a chat with her. :)

          Mac photo editing

I'm a Mac user, I have the photo shop elements but after using paintshop on windows for years I have never been able to get to grips with Mac photo editing.
I have the photo shop book but just can't seem to understand it.
I probably need more time to be able to sit and digest it all.
I love my Mac but do prefer the windows photo editing progs.
I now do my editing on photobucket.

            Thanks Lyn

I am going to try gimp I think and take it from there. I love my mac too and in most ways it performs a treat but it's not as good with photos. I can enhance and change slightly in iphoto but it's not much if you want to be really creative. I find it odd that Apple have never tried to produce something to rival photoshop in the home market. But they must feel its not an area they want to compete in. :)

I'm thinking of going back to windows just for my photo editing.
              It's a shame .
Maybe i could find a course how to use the photoshop elements software , it's just having the time.
People have told me it's really good.
But I just get fed up with it and don't bother.:o

I have been using The Gimp for over five years, like any other software it takes time to get used to it because it is such a versatile program. Surely it's worth the effort when the program is free. I also moved from Windows several years ago to Ubuntu/Linux operating system. It's a much more peaceful life.
