As per the title really. Photobucket is so slow for me that it is unusable. Is it my computer (all other sites I use including photo storage sites seem fine) or is it PB that has the problem?

You might have noticed i'm not using my normal array of simileys, that's because they're hosted by photobucket and the time it's loaded I've forgotten what I went there for.

Thought it was their way of getting everyone to pay to go ad free :th scifD36:

I gave up using Photobucket a couple of years ago and just download straight to GC from my computer. It's quicker and easier - just drag and drop.

I don't know whether this may be a problem if each photo is too big a file. I take all mine at approx. 1.5 mg and they drag and drop easily so I don't need to reduce the file size. Up to a couple of years ago GC wouldn't allow drag and drop with photos at that size. They may even allow bigger now but I haven't tried it.

Do you lose all your photos doing that?

@shiney - I only use PB for small files anyway. I store the good stuff on Flickr and an external drive. I reckon that @Zigs is right and they're trying to bully us to pay which is a little silly when Flickr gives me one terrabyte for free!

@longk so why don't you just drag and drop straight from your computer? It saves uploading to PB and then downloading to GC.

I don't put anything in the Cloud. I'm too old fashioned for that :old: and don't trust anything I can't put my hands on. My photos are backed up to three hard drives. Paranoid! Moi? :loll:

@shiney - there is a lot of my older photos on PB that were lost when the hard drive that they were on succumbed to coffee. Once I have the old pics back PB can swivel.

In terms of safety of my photos that I care about cloud and an external device covers it for me.

I wouldn't trust my pictures to anyone else so they are kept within my computer and backed up with an external drive. However, when my computer gave up the ghost and I switched to Windows 10 with a new machine, the external drive was useless. Yes, all my pictures were on there but W10 would only accept the pictures one at a time. Not good when there are thousands! The chap that sorts my computer eventually loaded them by taking the hard drive out of my extinct computer and loading from that. :) I have kept that drive should I need it again.

When I had my computer upgraded, a few years ago, I had a new, bigger, hard drive installed but kept the old one in the computer as another back-up/copy. So I now have multiple back-ups. Probably a bit of overkill (with the external back-ups) but you can never be too paranoid when it comes to saving the photos and data. :heehee:

We have something in excess of 70,000 photos and I know where to find all of them! :hate-shocked: The filing system in my head is still working OK. :old: :snork:

I never trust just one method so that is why I keep physical and virtual copies.

My internet is much too slow to upload a lot of data to the Cloud. They've recently brought fibre into the village and my upload speed has risen to a magnificent .8mg.
