I would say about a week. I have 3 in close proximity to each other, and the other 2 are fine. If it is disease I do not want it to spread to them. I was going to move this one to the front garden when it had died back, but I fear I may be sending it to the tip.

It does look suspiciously like a virus disease. If aphids are around it could be spread to the healthy ones, so sadly, best to get rid....

If you were going to move it anyway ...

.... perhaps you could pot it up and put it somewhere like a plant-sick-bay and see what happens next year? :noidea: I have had a great success with dividing the one I had after it died back - gave a couple of pieces away (they did great!) and replanted 3 other pieces. So, even if you don't want to do the sick-bay idea, you still have two plants you can divide when ready?

Mr "M" got a severe telling off for "killing" the one I had in the copse (silly Numpty Turnip put fresh chicken manure over it :gaah: ... ) but, I'm eating humble pie because ... this year it has come back stronger than ever!

The other two transplants are thriving.

I have 5 in my garden, 2 of which are looking much the same as yours @rustyroots .

1 is a first year division, the other hasn't been divided for at least 5 years. The older one did the same last year, then got flattened by a mini tornado and looked a right mess with most stems broken. I cut it right down, it re-grew (not as big) and was clean :noidea:

I thought it was in need of dividing, but it got missed off the list until it was too late, BUT, that would not explain why the 1st year plant is suffering the same (it is not from the older one, and it's parent plant is a picture of health).

I have checked and rechecked for any pests, none to be found. They are in good soil. I have tried a seaweed feed, as well as my own compost tea, and this has made no difference. As mine are planted in the ground, I would rule out The Evil Weevil myself.

I am going to follow this thread with interest.

I have seen this in a friend's garden, a plant that was divided last autumn . The other half was moved about 10' away and looks much better. I don't think it can be aphids, they don't usually go for dicentra and besides, there has not been much scope so far for it, either last autumn or this spring. Interesting that so many people are reporting it all over the country.

I certainly wouldn't think of chucking it yet, wait and see, wait and see.

It will die back soon in any case, then you will have a chance to lift it and check it out for evidence of vine weevil. If so, you could wash off the root and it may well regenerate or small pieces will.

The yellow leaves on your dicentra plant, is caused either by lack of nutrients, insufficient light or root rot.

Hate to disagree, but both of my troubled plants have sufficient light and don't lack for nutes, Root rot could though be a possibility, will have to wait a while to find out.

I never assume that anything does or doesn't. I had RSM on a couple of plants outdoors last year for gods sake!!! That was a first.
