My evergreen hedge (sorry I cant be more specific - photo may help), has a number of bare patches. Over the past 6 months Ive noticed small brown leaves (see photo) which are occurring randomly through the hedge.
I really like the hedge, so really Im trying to find out if this is treatable. Any advice greatly appreciated!! I should add I have absolutely minimal hedge knowledge (which probably shows)

    Steve71957, Welcome to the forums.

    Perfectly normal.
    Nothing to worry about.
If you want just trim wee dead bits off.

      Brilliant! Great news.
Does anyone have any tips for sorting out bare patches in the same hedge or how to avoid more bare patches going forward ?

      Hi Steve

conifers are evergreen so in drought or heavy frost they still require water and this is when this damage occurs , not a lot you can do in the winter but it has been a very dry April so I would imagine this would have been the cause ... in dry periods give the soil a good soak

Thanks Spruce, advice greatfully received. Given a picture is worth a 1000 words, ive included a picture of the worst bare patch to see if that helps with suggestions for rejuvenation of that area... Hedge bare patch.jpg

The information I have read about these conifer hedges getting bare patches is that if you trim them back into brown growth they don't regrow again from these areas and care needs to be taken not to cut them back too far for this reason. A regular light trimming works better than a less frequent severe cutback.

Thanks all for the info. I think I will try and plant some small evergreens in the bare patch areas in an effort to 'fill' out the bare patches, and see if that works.......
