I discovered this little 'dirt hill' in the garden this morning. It is just beside the root of a gourd plant. Mole is it? What can I do to stop it digging my plants up?

    Thanks in advance! IMG_3861.jpg

    It is :)

Get a good pair of gloves and a metal bucket. Kneel down by it and wait a few minutes for your vibrations to fade, then clear the hill away exposing the hole.

When he comes to see what caused the pressure change, pick him up and put in the bucket, then take him somewhere else.

Keep your fingers away from the business end :yikes:

Oh come on @zigs:snorky:, you are suggesting to some poor soul that they spend probably the rest of their lives on their hands and knees with about a 1 in 1,000,000 chance of catching a Mole by hand. Good god they can smell you from about 1/2 a mile away are really sneaky and I've known them bypass traps and if you do happen to catch 1, (I didn't but my dog did) they are incredibly powerful and I couldn't hold onto it and it got free and departed.
Where we used to live we had a fair old problem with Moles which was not ideal as they burrowed in our bank which was holding back The River Clyde and yes at times when the water was high we had "fountains" spurting through the bank c/o Moles:wallbanging:.

In 20 years of mole hunting I have never managed to catch a live one. Our neighbours cat on the other hand is brilliant. Oh and re-locating them is not humane. They cannot survive about ground for very long and unless you dig it a tunnel, it will not live long enough to dig one of its own. Plus, if there are already mole hills in the area then the resident mole will fight the incomer to the death.

Beg to differ there Pal, I dropped the one I caught from only 6 inches, time I got my hand down to him he'd half buried himself already.

Agree about not puttin them where there are already moles, they are solitary creatures, only getting together at mating times.
