I seem to be missing the boat as usual. Although I've done loads of sowing on the allotment some of it hasn't come up and some will be vacating their spot presently so I'm thinking of useful stuff I could replace it with.

So, I'm wondering if there's any reason why I couldn't sow a late crop of broad beans, say? I know Spring or Autumn sown are the usual times, but why couldn't a late June/July-sown row crop in October? Anyone know of a reason?

I'm planning to succession-sow some short rows of peas, again until early July, also spinach, leaf beet, carrots & Japanese greens.

Any comments or suggestions as to crops that can succeed if sown late, plus sowing deadlines?

Could be thinking about crops for overwintering soon, like Land Cress, Lambs Lettuce and Mizuna :)

I'm running late this year too, giving a few things a go from seed & keeping them crossed for a Welsh Summer.

Get a cheap poly tunnel and extend your season.

Good idea but a bridge too far at the moment, what with one thing and another!

Thanks for your replies, they've given me confidence to keep sowing.

              Just orders some American landcress

late sowing broad beans usually succumb to blackfly - well, avoiding them is the reason for sowing early :)

Do you do Stir Fries much? Chinese greens are great for later sowings - they bolt if sown too early. Mooli radish are fun - if you like that type of thing.
