Regular readers may remember the ongoing story of my niece and not being seen by a GP before they told her the agonising pain in her hip was a trapped nerve. That was 4 1/2 months ago and she has finally seen a physio, and is still waiting for a CT scan. Her first face to face with a GP was about 2 weeks ago, and that's when the CT scan was requested.
The physio has stated that he is shocked that the symptoms could have been interpreted as a trapped nerve/sciatica, and it is not. She has been told what it is and the likely cause. She has also been informed that physio exercise along with avoiding sitting in one position for extended periods of time should clear it up in a few weeks!
4 1/2 months off work because doctors were too disinterested to actually examine her. Incidentally, she booked physio directly with the hospital not through the surgery. She did try to go to physio once before but was in so much pain when she got there, after a jerky bus trip, that they couldn't examine her.
I suspect there will be a formal complaint made against the surgery once she gets back to work. Utterly ******* disgusting.

Before I got the smart meter I always sent in my readings, I used to get a message/ email saying send in your reading before a certain date and you wont get an estimated bill.

Why your energy company want it down to the minute is a total mystery.

I had to set up an account, online, with our council to pay for a refuse bin. No problem you would think. No chance!

I filed in their four page questionnaire with no more than five questions per page and then was put through to the payment page. They only accept credit cards so filled in the card details which then left me waiting whilst the bank verify it. It then send that for security they will send an automated code to my phone - good luck trying that! My phone has Call Guardian on it so the system does not accept calls from automated numbers. So they couldn't do it.

The screen timed out whilst I phoned the card company to say it is not possible to accept a call from an automated number so they asked me to turn off Call Guardian. My answer was that Call Guardian is part of the phone and cannot be turned off. So they put me through to a special number and I explained the situation to them.
They said it won't be a problem as it can be sorted by their fraud department so I asked to be put through to them. "Oh, we can't do that until you have reached the stage of putting in your card details." She said she will hang on until I have reached that stage. So I fill in the four pages again and then the card details. She then switches me through to 'fraud'. By the time they have also asked me what I wanted and asked for mother's maiden name etc. the thing had timed out again. :wallbanging:

So I had to start from scratch but made 'fraud' hang on this time. and they authorised it. The form then took me back to the council site which said I now have to open an account with them before they can complete the transaction.

I go through all that which includes putting in a password and then confirming it by putting it in again. The password was BureaucraticIdiocy.

I am now the proud owner of a council account and an extra bin that is being delivered on Friday. :phew:

The 2 hours they estimated was for the 2hours before the 1st of Janurary as there was a price change, 2 hours at the old rate then 31 days at the new rate, i think they want me to do it at midnight then i won't get a estimated bit on the bill when the price changes again

Tempting, @Jiffy, if the price is going up, to read the meter and add a bit on so you get some cheaper electricity!
Those road closed signs drive me mad, along with the meaningless diversion signs. One of our main local roads has subsided after the recent flooding and is going to be closed for months. They have put a road closed sign at the far end of the road, without taking into account that drivers can actually get as far as the local tip. There are going to be a lot of annoyed people with stuff to get rid of, who don’t realise that the tip is open and accessible. I bet there will be an increase in fly tipping as well.

A year or two back there were diversion signs at a crossroads near our village on the border of two counties. As the county highways depts don't talk to each other they hadn't coordinated their roadwork schedules so there were four diversion signs at the crossroads point in the four different directions.

We had a road close dew to water leak, though water leak wasn't in the road but in the grass verge but it was a single track road, so for safety they closed it but were leting vehicles through when it was ok, then so big mouth started moaning so then it was close so no one could go passed and as it was the only way in and out some people were cut off all because of a big mouth moaning, it was the cold day but the guys fixed the leak with the water still on all the time but it took them 9 hours to do it and finnished at 11pm, i wouldn't want to be thosse guys and we rang up water company and thanked them for what they did and asked if they could thank the guy's for what they done :)

This was on the local TV news last night:
South East Water currently has a hosepipe ban (Temporary Use Ban) in place for customers in Kent and Sussex, introduced in July 2025 due to low reservoir levels and high demand from dry weather, though it's under review as of early 2026 despite recent rainfall. While other companies have lifted theirs, SEW maintains the ban to help resources recover, impacting garden watering, car washing, and pool filling, with potential fines for violations.

                    You couldn't make it up:mute:

At least you won't be needing to water the garden!

When you consider that a fair amount of their customers have been cut of for days or weeks in some cases, you would have thought they would have plenty of water.

I often wonder where they manage to get all that bottled stuff from.

Here in Thanet I do not come under that company.
I take no notice of the bans, if I want to use my hosepipe I will.
