    Hi,

Trying to identify this weed which seems not to be bothered much by Weedol treatments.

Its also invaded the soil under a row of Lavenders down one edge of the lawn.

The tops break off very easily so you can never pull up its roots in our fine clayish soil.

Any suggestions as to what it is and what will kill it off ?

Looks like it could be Dog Violet, but as above need better pics.

Has it ever flowered? (where flowers wouldn't have been mown out)

        Hi,

On the odd occasion in the past have seen one or two violet flowers nearby from under a hedge but could not be certain which 'weed' they were coming from.
Have not seen any flowers from them on the lawn which gets cut about once a week.

Also have loads under a row of Lavenders which have not been touched all summer and not noticed any flowers on them, or if there was so small we did not see them.

Could you take a pic of a whole plant carefully removed from the ground?

Think we might be able to answer your question without a pic -

When we have grubbed those out from under the lavenders there only seems to be a very thin single root, about 2mm, for a large array of leaves and they seem to easily break off at soil level.
Not noticed any of the leaves trying to root themselves.

If thats not what you mean, what should we be looking for if we try to lift some with roots attached ?

Well since the above post we have treated some of these weeds with a hand sprayer mix of Weedol with zero effect.

Any suggestions of what may kill it as too much to hand weed plus the neighbours lawn, just a foot away, has the same weeds, so even using Glyphosate and re-seeding might be wasted effort.

some weeds are difficult to eradicate even with herbicide, a few need multiple applications. I'd use a hand sprayer for spot spraying instead of doing the whole lawn again. or use a brush and use glyphosate.
