I have a small 3 foot ace in a large container, a few days ago the leaves started crumpling up and going brown then dropping off. Most of the leaves are still on but wilted and crumpled. It was very windy recently, is this the cause of the trouble due to large water loss and being in direct sun?

fp. Acers don`t like full sun and they don`t like being in windy positions. Most varieties prefer sheltered, lightly shaded situations. Not too wet and not too windy.

    David is absolutely right
However, if you supply a little more history it would help
Winds on their own shouldn't have caused the leaves to 'crumple, go brown and fall off'

    :D
We have a resident hare which loves my new Japanese maple seedlings
It cuts them off just inches from the ground with as nice a sharp cut as you have ever seen
Nevertheless ... two of them are putting out new shoots. They certainly are determined little bug*ers
They are now protected from further attack :)
