:)A very good evening to one and all :-)

Last year, I was asked to design the garden at the local community centre, so after thinking long and hard I agreed :)

I have been thinking about the hard landscaping, the planting, etc and it had to include access for the disabled. After about 4 months, I've finally finished the design and plans and tomorrow it goes before the board for approval!!:hate-shocked:

I have no horticultural or design qualifications whatsoever so I was flattered that they asked me!:dancy:

Open budget too, and my choice completely:dbgrtmb:

I wonder if they like giraffes?.:biggrin::snork:

I'm not surprised they asked you as your own garden is stunning. :dbgrtmb:

I'm chuffed to bits I am! Designing a garden from scratch with someone else's money??!! Get in!

The main colours for the planting are red, black and pale green. Everything from sambucas and black grasses to hemerocallis and dahlias to fatsia and bamboo.

Accent colours will be yellow and white, again in the form of dahlias and hemerocallis. Winter and spring bulbs will be put in by the hundreds too so it'll have colour, hopefully, all year round. It'll be used for functions and events and with the golf open coming to hoylake again this July, it might even be on the telly! Marvelous stuff!

Congrats al n, but just to give you a few words or warning from someone who has done design work for a charity in the past.....

Don't expect all or any of your ideas to be taken on board or for them to be changed completely due to budget and time restrictions and what other people want etc etc. I too was told there was a fairly big budget on a large picnic area I designed out for a nearby nature park but in the end none of my ideas were taken on and these were good ones too. This area is constantly flooded and my idea to evalate the picnic area to avoid the flooding was intially welcomed with open arms until I was then told it was too expensive to do and that would "just throw a load of stone on it instead". Picnic area has still not been made nearly a year after I came up with a design and they desperately need one for the summer time. Left me feeling quite bitter about the time and effort I wasted on the whole thing really.

I'm not saying your charity is going to do the same thing but I just thought I would mention my experiences that's all.
