As part of our trip to Cornwall (as mentioned in another post!), the wife and I visited the Lost Gardens of Heligan, which is another botanical place I've wanted to go. Awesome place, and it's fantastic how much work has gone in to recreating this masterpiece! So much to see and take in - But I can't possibly share all the photos I took, so here are just a few.

I visited the Eden Project back in late June and found it disappointing. It would seem quite a few people are split on there opinions of this place.

On the other hand I would love to have visited Heligan, but didn't find the time to get there. A must for the next time I'm in the South-West.

Thanks for posting the pics HarmonyArb. :)

We visited both Eden and Heligan seven years ago, your pics reminded me it's about time we went back.:dbgrtmb:

Heligan is well worth a visit. Not been to the Eden Project because it seems TOO contrived to me. Harmony, did you come across the Golden Pheasants?:D:dbgrtmb:

I'm afraid I didn't see the Golden Pheasants, Dai - But then again I think there was a lot I didn't see. Having a pregnant wife in tow sort of reduced the amount of time and trekking I could do! There's always next year.

I've visited both The Lost Gardens Of Heligan and The Eden Project, must be well over ten years ago now, The Eden Project had only been open for maybe a year? Anyway, I loved The Lost Gardens Of Heligan, lots to see and plenty of subjects that catered for all interests/aspects of gardening. I was undecided about The Eden Project though, just didn't seem 'natural' enough to me. I've been meaning to go back at some stage because as I said, it hadn't been open long, and it certainly didn't seem finished.

          Cheers...Freddy.

I was at the Eden project for the first time this year. Not impressed, I think it's very over-rated, so I won't be going back.

It's a pity, because it's obvious that a LOT of work went into it....

I enjoyed the Eden Project (twice) and Heligan (once). It seems like you're comparing apples with pears because they offer very different experiences.

I think Eden's well worth a visit because of the vision, the building, the scope of the project, the botanical variety as well as the regular gardening experience. I'd avoid a sunny weekend in August, though.

Heligan was not especially memeorable for me except I bought a Japanese wineberry after seeing it there.

I haven't been to Heligan, so no comparison, sorry!
