Easily the most fulfilling garden I have ever visited, I would advise your comfiest trainers and water if you want to attempt the Jungle area-it nearly finished me off for good!

I have a couple of friends in Devon and Cornwall who have visited it and reported back similar. The place looks stunning...one to visit if we ever get down there! I love the picture showing the 'avenue' of Acanthus.

Thanks for sharing - so that's where you've been hiding then Claire :)

Come Hell or high water, I have every intention of moving down there now, I fell in love with the place, especially the little fishing village of Polperro-I have some pics of there too. Worth the drive from where you are Aaron.

Eight hours drive from London (a bit less from Sussex). Took me five hours a few years ago on the motorbike...but that was breaking one or two speed limits...

I dread to think how long it took from Lancashire!

Quite a distance from Lancashire lol. Hadn't reckoned on it being that long from London-it took us 5 hrs to get to where we were staying at Looe-and it took us one hr to get to the gardens from Looe-that's bad roads you have there. Maybe a week in a B&B in Polperro-google it, you'll want to go.

Nice to see you around occasionally and hope all is well with you.

:) Glad you enjoyed your hol. Claire.
Heligan is a fabulous garden raised from the dead by the guy who built the Eden project I believe.
I have been a few years ago.....must go again,it seems even better now.
This picture is so naturaly beautiful.

We visited Helligan about twelve years ago, I was very impressed, but my wife was a bit disappointed as she couldn't manage the walkway down the valley.

We also made our first visit to the Eden Project the same year after reading about it in a magazine.
This was before it was complete and was at the time "the biggest licenced building site in the world!" We went on the road train down to look at them building the biospheres where several fitters were absailing down the sides fixing the panels. The visit (apart from lunch and a drink in the restaurant, all those facilities were complete) cost £2. We had to wear yellow jackets and hard hats for our tour. I found the first visit more interesting than any subsequent one. We don't bother with it now as it's got far too expensive.

It does look beautiful Claire, glad you had a nice holiday there. I've never been to Heligan, it's now on my list of places to visit now thanks. We have stayed in Looe several times, in West Looe actually, the rocky beach side - we just love it there, even managed the cliff walk to Polperro and had a fresh crab salad.

Did you go and see the Eden Project? Thats not far away from Looe.

Yes we went to visit the Eden Project but the crowds were too much, that and the tropical biome drove me to the nearest glass of cold cider lol.

The whole area of Looe and Polperro are too beautiful to adequately describe in words.

We went for a weekend six years ago just to see Eden and Heligan and although a lot of the plants had gone over it was still more enjoyable than Eden and we will go again but in summer.
It's incredible to think that it was 'lost' and took a 'near hurricane' to expose it.
Thanks for reminding me how fantastic it is.:)
