I know wood pigeons are not eveybodies favourite bird, but recently I have had a pair in my garden, and they spend ages on my fence courting. I might be wrong but they appear to be kissing one another, lightly pecking quite high up on each others necks this ritual goes on for ages, has anyone else seen this behaviour.

Hi seeker of knowledge, I don`t have a courting pair but I do have a single one which comes into my yard twice a day.
As you rightly said, not everybodies favourite but I love watching it feeding on the ground and I am still impressed by the sheer size of it and the colourful plumage.

I think that pigeons are lovely birds, even if you see them in lots of places by the dozen...
I ' ve seen that courting behaviour many times and I think that it's very cute.
What I am not particularely keen is the koo-koo sound the pigeons usually make, and seem to last forever...

I actually love the sound they make, I find it gently soothing. A week ago whilst dog walking I watched a pair up high in a tree, the male was very vocal and kept dipping his head up and down a couple of inches away from the female.

The ungrateful girl flew off and when we retraced our steps he was still sadly alone.

I silently apologised to him on behalf of all females for our flippant, flirtatious ways!!
