I would like to grow some Lupins and Red Hot Pokers -Knipphofia from seed . Now I understand that you can start the seeds in early autumn ,Septemberish. I have never done an autumn sowing before , so once I have the seedlings what happens next ? Will they die back if left outside in a sheltered spot ? Do I over winter them in an unheated GH ? Will they both flower in 2014 ? Sorry for all the questions :blue thumb:

    TIA

I did some red hot pokers last year and they stayed green all winter. Placed them outside in April to hardend them off and forgot about them. When I remembered them they had fully rooted into the soil through the pots :snork:
Think that they take a couple of seasons to flower though.
Lupins soak the seed for 24 hours in cold water, I think mine died back in the GH but came back in the spring.

      Hi

You could sow them now so you have bigger plants to over winter and a better chance they will flower next year , would need protection until spring , "Tutti Fruiti" lupin is a easy one to grow from seed and good strong colour in the flowers .
