    Hi Grinchi

    Yes and no

Why did the old ones die ?? Full sun ?? well drained soil ??

    Normaly last for years

They are hungry plants so make sure you dig it all over incorporate compost / manure if you can get hold of any sprinkle of bone meal will help as well

      Hi Mr. G.
I lost Lupins for several years. They were being munched by Slugs/Snails.
Now I surround the plant with Slug Pellets and have no problems.
Still growing them in the same place.
They are in afternoon sun, fairly dry soil - due to a neighbours Beech tree. I still get numerous good spears that last well into the Autumn.
Persevere +use pellets and you should have success.

Again I use the grow them to a good size before putting into the ground. Mine are in 5" pots and will be going out when they have grown a bit. I prefer to surround mine with coarse grit rather than pellets though. All mine have come from seed and will do better if grown on in pots before putting in the ground therefore give a succession of flowering.

      Thanks for the replies.
My Lupins usually do well, but the plants themselves only usually last around 3 years before they rot off and die over winter. They get very woody at the base. My soil is a heavy clay base, and i think the wet usually does for them. As far a slugs go, i get a few but they dont seem to have an effect. I usually bung a load of pellets down in March and that seems to keep them at bay for the summer.
