    my lupins have been badly eaten by something (slug,snail?)has anyone got any advise on what i can do to prevent this

    If its snails, then I find the best control, besides my resident thrushes, is a patrol after dark with a torch especially after rain and pick off . I'd also check to see if you can identify what is doing the eating - then you can target any control measures.
