Hi Cordy, what wood did you use for the splines?

The splines are 6 mm Walnut
The Half Moon is pine; I had to guess the number of saw cuts
                The circular is oak

All the other timber is tanalised pressure treated Decking

I found this simple 'How to cut a splined joint'

Much better method than having to make a cumbersome jig
Instead of lining with plastic sheet, I painted the inside 2 coats then Varnished it all 4 times with water based Yacht Varnish

I agree, it's an easy way to make splines. I'm actually subscribed to this fellas channel!

This Autumn I made a few 'Garden Trugs' from 7 inch wide by .75 inch cheap pine and 3 mm Perspex
Mrs C trotted round to our neighbour with one
'Oh, Lovely' She said 'I could just use it as a magazine rack'

IMG_20221022_142303_HDR.jpg Not only do I love pottering about in the garden, but I also love making stuff out of odds and ends of scrap wood that would otherwise end up getting burnt on my woodburner. There's something very satisfying about making something useful out of scrap.

And the best thing is you don't have to be that skilled if you're making stuff for the garden because aesthetics aren't that important. I make planters quite regularly. I find it very rewarding. And have you seen the prices in the garden centres for planters and such? It's scandalous. One of mine above.
