    Can you take cutting of a Mahonia, when and how please, I've got one that looks like it not to well and would like to take cutting from another plant to replace the one that looks sick

        I took some cuttings a few years ago from my M. "charity".

        It needed cutting back so I used the prunings in April.
        I just cut the stem in sections each with a leaf joint, the buried the piece,in pots, leaving the leaf protruding.
        They took about 3 months to show new shoots.
        The resulting plants flowered in about three years, as I remember.

        Its not a rapid process, so for the price of a new plant you have to wonder if its really worth it.:)
