Making a YTube ...?

Hi,

Not something we have done before and its a very long time since we even looked at video editing.

Asking for help on what Free progam to use to help us create the video and upload it to Ytube ?

Its only going to be a few minutes long and not looking to do any fancy graphics etc.

The main video will be from a smart phone, and will need to crop and stitch several takes together.
Would like to be able to add Text overlays to the video , like the photo example below, so we can tell the story with the text as the video progresses rather than speech.

Also need to bring in some photos from both the smart phone and different cameras.
Is there a prefered resolution to shoot at that makes it easier for them to be added to the video?
