Oh dear And I was so pleased with it. :D It's only been up a week.

We've just taken it down as it's leaving a huge swathe of brown grass where it reflects the sun light. We tried adjusting it but it just casts light further up the lawn!

Has any one successfully got garden mirrors to work? I guess they have to be in the shade?

    Kate

Off to Wales on me hols Sat. Doesn't look like I need to worry about watering the gardening while I'm away! :heehee:

I haven't got mirrors but I think it would make sense to move it to a spot where the sun doesn't catch it.

Happy holiday! Hope the weather's kind. :)

Whereabouts in Wales Kate? Also. I don`t think the mirror is causing the problem, it only reflects light, it doesn`t magnify it.:dbgrtmb::thumbsup:

    Thanks all!

It was definitely the mirror as I stuck my hand under the reflected glare and it was HOT! :D OH well I'll have to put it somewhere else.

Mid Wales... near Elan Valley area, so beautiful. Sadly we have to take the kids with us. But maybe I can lose them in a forest or something! Going to check out any local gardens too.

OK better go pack. Off to dig out waterproofs!:heehee:

Kate, hope you didn't really lose the children...otherwise it's going to look as though it was premeditated now!!

    Hi Kate,

I hope you enjoy your holiday :yahoo:

It's difficult to go against empirical data, so maybe I should keep quiet (whenever has that stopped me! :heehee:) but I'm inclined to agree with Dai. It's highly unlikely to be caused by reflected light. When you found it hot did you put your hand near the mirror or near the grass?

I think the inverse square law applies to the reflected heat as well as the light - excluding arguments about black bodies and point sources. So it can't be concentrating the heat. There may be a slight cumulative effect of the direct heat from the sun and the reflected heat but I can't see it burning your grass.
