    Happy New Year to all.
My daughter had given me a cutting from her Monstera Monkey Mask last week, as I loved hers when she got it months ago.
It has some brown patches on the leaves and the new shoot that has come up in the last few days has some too. See pics.
I’m not sure if this is a result of overwatering or under watering?
The compost appeared quite dry when I got it and I have watered it twice from the bottom in a week which has been sucked up immediately and the compost still looks dry.
Anyone with experience who can advise?

    Hi,
It doesn't look like anything I've seen in monsteras (potted or wild I had in my garden in Argentina.
Is it possible it has got cold burned in transit?
Monsteras tolerate a lot of very dry pots, and when eventually they get over dry they just appear to be loosing a whole leaf at the time.
Over watering tends to yellow entire leaves in my experience.

They can live in semi arid +40 degrees, with rain pours happening once a month (flooding). Thus extremely hardy. But they do get burns from cold windows, which may appear like on the photos.

Seems strange the new leaf has formed like that, I'm wondering if there is some pest attacking the new growth.
As to the brown patches on the mature leaves. were they like that when you got it?
Does look like some kind of burn, from too hot or too cold.
Was it kept near a radiator before you got it?

I guess it's mostly stress and too much water.

I had a monstera for over 20 years. It survived even the biggest abuse. In my student quarters it lived on top of a shelf without the sun ever touching it. Sometimes for weeks or even months without water. I have no idea how it ever survived.

One day, years later, I went on vacation and my friendly neighbor, who was looking after my plants, soaked it with water whereas it starter to rot and die within two weeks. :gaah:

If it's newly potted it could do with a misting. My house plants show the same signs when the air is too dry
