Mulching soft fruit bushes

    The soil under the soft fruit bushes was covered with a beathable membrane to inhibit weeds. If we put mulch on top of this membrane, will it prevent nutrients from reaching the roots of the bushes?

    Best to roll the membrane back and mulch underneath then worms can get at it. Also on top it will just provide a medium for weed seeds to grow in.
